Client: Visit Longmont
Work: Web Design, Website Construction, SEO
Visit Longmont, the Longmont area tourist authority hired us to develop and design a website update for them. Their former website was built with a Magento-based system that was difficult to edit on the backend, and difficult to navigate on the front. We designed a modern website that will allow Visit Longmont to keep their web presence dynamic, and that will be easily navigated by users.
Mega Menu Navigation
While Visit Longmont is a popular voice within Longmont, the demography that primarily informed our design for this project was tourists. We needed a way to make the wealth of information that Visit Longmont’s site provided easily accessible so that those visiting from out of town can easily find necessary information. To accomplish this we used a mega menu. The menu allows visitors to access nearly any page of the site from the front page, while keeping news and blog posts a dynamic element of the menu and the site.
The result is an attractive and easy-to-use navigation system.
Mobile Website Optimization
Another crucial part of Visit Longmont’s website update was building it up to web standards in term of mobile compatibility. As a tourism authority, many of Visit Longmont’s website visitors will be from out of the area, and on-the-go when visiting Visit’s site. Ease of use on mobile strongly influenced our design: we provided quick links to the four primary categories (Activities, Dining, Events, Information) on the site; we utilized a special mobile menu that is intuitive and contains nearly all of the same information and links as the desktop menu; we checked every page on mobile to ensure maximum compatibility.
This was an especially important part of the website update for Visit Longmont after the recent changes in Google’s algorithm that penalizes sites that aren’t optimized for mobile.
